About My Art

I have had a passion for drawing for as long as I can remember, the easiest way to keep me quiet as a child was to give me some paper and something to draw with. The other was to let me be with animals, any sort would do, dogs , cats, birds even frogs in the pond. I supose it was only natural then that all my pictures were of animals.

I completed my GCSE and A Level art at school and went on to Loughborough college of art and design to complete my foundation course in preparation for University. I'm afraid I never got there! A couple of things stopped me from taking this route any further, one was my disillutionment at my tutors trying to get me to create abstact art work, (I only wanted to paint animals!) and the other was falling off my horse and breaking my right collar bone during the final term.

My parents owned a pet shop in our village and I would help out at the weekends, painting and drawing in between serving customers. This was how I got my first commission for a pet portrait, completely by accident! I then found orders were coming in by word of mouth and so I carried on doing the odd painting for people here and ther and in between painting for pleasure.

At the beginning of this year I had another riding accident and managed to fracture my spine, (one of the nurses at A&E asked me if I was a good rider? Clearly not as I wouldn't have just been brought in by an ambulance!). This meant that I had alot of spare time on my hands, not being able to ride and with quite alot of time off work. I decided to do something about advertising my art to a wider audience and with great results, I am undertaking commissions as we speak from the USA! I can now call myself international artist!
