Commission a Pet Portrait

If, like me, you adore your animals and would like a very special way of immortalizing your pet in art why not commission me to paint a portrait. Alot of my pictures are ordered as a gift and what could be more special that a pet portrait?

All I need is at least one photograph, in focus, of the animal you want me to paint. You do not need to be a proffessional photographer to get a picture that I can paint from, there are however some things to bear in mind.

1. The clearer the photograph the more detail I will be able to see and therefore the more detail I will be able to include in the painting.

2. The eyes of an animal are where their character lies so try not to use flash when taking the photographs, this will give them 'red eye' or shine and although I can paint this out I will be guessing at your dog's/cat's eyecolour.

3. For some reason a painting where the animal is directly facing the viewer does not look quite right so try to get a shot with the head directed slightly to the side.

4. Get some help! It's almost impossible to take photographs of animals without a helper, someone who can hold the dog/cat so you get a good chance to take a few photographs. Some animals love having their photographs taken others hate it. My dog Du pulls such a face and slopes off whenever I try to get a good picture of him, I'm not sure what he thinks I'm trying to do but he doesn't like it!

5. Bribery! Get some favourite treats or a toy to get your dogs attention or horses ears pricked. Rustle the packet, squeak the toy make funny noises, you will look a bit weird but you'll get a good picture.

6. Always try to take the photographs outside in natural light, this way you will be sure to get the correct coat colour, don't forget I don't know your pet and will paint the colours I see.
